About the Book

What is creativity? I have always seen myself as someone who is a maker of things. My interest in it here is utilitarian, but that ventured towards the more aesthetic later.

Human creativity dates back to the beginning of our evolved species as Homo sapiens and possibly earlier. Our creativity evolved as we came into greater consciousness and mortality awareness.

I see the role of creative people in society as speaking on behalf of those who lack the skills to speak for themselves. When I listen to music I connect with, I’m hearing that which explains my feelings and deep inner emotions. It is the same with visual art and architecture. Literature, theatre, and film also tell our stories, as do all other great human achievements that are made on behalf of us all.

Having a memory of always making things from an early age, it’s difficult to pinpoint a beginning. I was always driven by curiosity and trying to gain a better understanding of the world. I would source information from wherever I could but relied mostly on trying to pay as much attention as possible to the world I lived in and the people I met.

I can remember my old swimming coach often commenting on my constantly asking questions. My response was that it was the only way to get answers. is curiosity and questioning was probably annoying to many, but it served me well.

Unfortunately, photographic documentation is not something I focused on. My main focus was on what I was doing at the time, not on what I had completed.

Following in chronological order are my memories of the past fifty-five creative years. Included in the text are photos that I did retain of some of the work I did over many decades.
